Materiality has always guided the way I create. The materials I choose are never just supports, they carry their own stories, memories, and meanings. In this painting, a figure bends its body to shield a fragile sprout from the scorching sun. The gesture is both tender and desperate, a quiet act of resistance in a landscape marked by drought.
The frame itself is made of acacia wood, a material that carries a myth of survival. It is said that Noah’s Ark was built from the same tree, the vessel that carried life through the flood. I was drawn to this connection, to the idea that the same wood could hold two extremes: the storm and the drought, salvation and desolation.
I think a lot about these opposites and how they coexist in the world we live in. The dryness of the earth and the memory of water. The urge to protect something small and alive when everything around seems to burn. The act of care, even when it feels futile, becomes a kind of faith.
