yuyo

Yuyo, 32 x 50 inches, acrylic and colored pencils on canvas, framed in ash, 2023

In a world dominated by manicured gardens and pristine lawns, "Yuyo" challenges conventional standards of beauty. This painting pays homage to the humble dandelion, a symbol of nature's perseverance and the beauty of so-called "weeds." Two vibrant dandelions, their pink heads touching, stand close to the ground, rooted in the earth they celebrate. "Yuyo" defies traditional placement, lying on the ground as if sprouting from the earth itself. This work redefines weeds as symbols of resilience, teaching us to value their tenacity and adaptability. It also honors Guarani culture, where "yuyos" are used as remedies, highlighting the wisdom of indigenous traditions in harnessing the healing power of nature.
